Tracking

Identify and persistence

Attach your own user ids, keep returning visitors across days, and what each option changes for privacy.

Out of the box Globatics recognises a visitor for one day only, without storing anything in their browser. Two opt-ins add more: persistence (an anonymous id kept in localStorage) and identify (your own user id). Pick what your audience and your privacy policy allow.

The default: cookieless

Each visitor is counted with sha256(daily salt + site id + IP + user agent), cut to 16 characters. The salt changes every day and old salts are deleted, so the same person gets a new id tomorrow and ids can’t be linked across days or sites. The IP address is only held in memory while the request is processed.

Opt-in persistence

Add data-persist to the script tag. The tracker stores a random id in localStorage (globatics_vid) and the visitor id becomes sha256(site id + that id). Returning visitors, retention cohorts and visitor profiles work across days.

<script defer data-site="SITE_ID" data-persist src="…/script.js"></script>

Storage changes the consent picture

Writing an identifier to the device is covered by ePrivacy rules in the EU. Check whether your audience measurement exemption still applies, or ask for consent before enabling it.

Identify logged-in users

After login, call identify with your own user id and optional traits. Identified visitors show their name in the live view and sessions list (never on public share links), and their visits are tied together in their profile.

globatics('identify', user.id, { name: user.name, plan: user.plan });

It only works when Allow identify is on in the site settings. Send ids and the traits you need, never passwords, tokens or anything you wouldn’t show a teammate.

Reset on logout

globatics('reset');

reset forgets the identity. With data-persist it also rotates the stored id and starts a new view, so the next person on a shared computer starts as a new, anonymous visitor.

Global Privacy Control

When the browser sends Global Privacy Control, persistence is turned off (an existing id is deleted) and identify is ignored. Do Not Track is honoured too when you add data-respect-dnt. See Data fields and privacy.
