Goals and funnels

Turn pages and events into conversions, then follow people step by step through a funnel.

A goal turns a page or an event into a conversion. A funnel orders several of them and shows where people drop off. Both apply to past data as soon as you create them: goals are matched against the stored events, not only from now on.

Goals

KindMatchesExample
PageviewA page path pattern/pricing
EventAn event namesignup
  • Each goal counts at most once per visit. The conversion rate is converting visits divided by all visits.
  • An optional value (for example 49) is shown next to conversions; revenue itself comes from events with a revenue amount.
  • Create goals in Settings → Goals, or with the API below.
  • Every report can be filtered by a goal: “visits that signed up”, or “visits that never did”.

Path patterns

PatternMatchesDoesn’t match
/pricing/pricing, /pricing//pricing/team
/blog/*/blog, /blog/launch/blog/2026/launch
/docs/**/docs and everything below/doc
/*/checkout/eu/checkout, /us/checkout/checkout

Matching is case-insensitive and ignores a trailing slash. The same syntax works in the tracker’s data-exclude and data-include and in the site’s excluded paths.

Funnels

  • 2 to 8 steps, each a pageview pattern or an event name, within a time window (1 minute to 30 days, 1 day by default).
  • Steps must happen in order within one visit. Counts are unique visitors.
  • For each step: conversion from the start and from the previous step, drop-off, and the median time to reach it.
  • Break any funnel down by channel, country, device, browser and more, and compare with the previous period.
  • Each step also reports how many people are on it right now (liveNow in the API), so you can jump to the Live view and watch them.

Manage them from the API

Goals and funnels have the same CRUD endpoints the dashboard uses. Authenticate with an API key.
